Susan R. Lytle - painter

A close up look at the colors, patterns, and textures of our flower relatives reveals the incredible variety of ways plants appeal to our senses. Painted in small works, Lytle’s show leads us on a journey into the inner sanctum of nature’s most beloved seducers.

Susan states: “In my recent paintings I am taking a much closer look at the flowers that surround me, many of which I have painted for years from a less personal point of view. I am startled and delighted by what I see! I see faces, personalities, actors and disguises. I see parties and dancing, and a lot of sexuality. I see physical anatomy that our plant relatives have in common with birds, insects, and animals, including, most startling, to we humans.

Lytle continues: “In the last few years with all the very big problems the world is suffering from it has been my personal healing meditation to focus my attention on these tiny details of our smallest friends. I hope my intimate floral portraits might bring the viewer some of that same relief, as well as a renewed appreciation of Nature, and our connection to all of it.

I feel, when I look closely at a flower, it is my emotional response to a subject that compels me to paint it. Nature is such an incredible artist! In my paintings I aim to convey this mystery and magic that inspires me to take a closer look . This is what I saw and how I felt about it.”
