DON WODJENSKI - Woodturner

Don Wodjenski is a woodturner who uses a variety of local and ethically sourced exotic woods to create bowls, platters and vases that often incorporate inlays of turquoise, malachite, lapis or gold, in a manner akin to the Japanese kintsugi tradition of fixing flaws and cracks in ceramics. Charring and burn piercings also add decorative elements.

Don Wodjenski is an artist - Woodturner, Furniture Maker, Photographer, Musician and Arts Educator - not necessarily in that order. A 40-year resident of Whidbey Island, he lives with his wife in Langley. Don is retired after 20 years teaching Visual Arts at South Whidbey High School, and is enjoying being able to focus on his own artwork.

Don adds, “My interests are highly varied. I believe in following my intuition, inspiration, and imagination. Woodworking runs in my family. From an early age, I was around men building things. In the 1980's I owned and operated Daedalus Design Furniture and Woodworking. Woodworking has been at the root of my creative experience.”
