Dale Reiger - kiln formed glass artist

Most of Dale's kiln formed glass is cast or a combination of fusing and casting. His multi colored glass houses are thick cast plates of glass over a metal superstructure.  These sculptures, some over 8' tall, are for indoor or outdoor use and have interior lighting. Garden Houses add unique beauty to your space.

Dale’s work on display in the Sculpture Garden

Dale describes his style as both primitive and elegant. He uses elementary shapes which translate into symbols, which create a highly personalized iconography drawing on his artistic, spiritual, and international background. Reiger uses color—including iridescent and dichromatic glass—as a language, which each color having its own code and texture. He is engaged in a dialogue between the harmony and dissonance of color. In glass, bright luminosity is often contrasted by dark transparent colors, which allows the light to penetrate, but not to reveal.

Reiger has 4 kilns.  The biggest 3 (capable of making up to 7' piece of glass) were custom built and allow Dale to make large and varied projects simultaneously.

Reiger was born in Seattle but grew up in Northern Idaho and Eastern Washington, moving to Whidbey Island in 2006. He graduated from Washington State University with a degree in English. He started painting about 30 years ago, then shifted his focus 15 years ago to include kiln-formed glass.

Dale also participates in public art projects.  He has installed over a dozen large public art pieces in WA, OR and CA.
