Craig Kosak - painter

Painter Craig Kosak has a long history of producing work that draws on mythological themes. In his new series Spirit Guides animals of various kinds are portrayed on colorful backgrounds that become dimensional spaces conveying emotional experiences. Inspired by the sea, the forests and the wildlife around him Craig is exploring a variety of ways to approach the process of making art, from representational to abstract. His work to integrate these seemingly disparate styles is ongoing.

Kosak explains, “Having traveled extensively around the American West, my life and work are about the land and the creatures with whom I share life. Rather than make paintings that tell a story I'm much more interested in making paintings that share a feeling. My work explores the inner world where things are felt more than seen. I am making representational paintings about emotional experiences.”

A full time Whidbey Island resident since 2012, Craig has a background in graphic design and in 1995 became the first web designer at Microsoft. In 2004 he quit his day job to pursue the dream of painting seriously. During his transition to full-time painting Craig served for three years on the board of directors at Seattle's Gage Academy of Art, and as president for the final year.

His work has been covered extensively in such magazines as Southwest Art, American Art Collector, and Santa Fean.
